Proprietor Julie Brinklow said today, “Bookings have dramatically shot up this year, I’m delighted to be kept busy and have been able to expand our team of pipers because of this”.
Julie continued, “2011 is already well in excess in bookings taken on previous years and we’re only barely into July!”
So what’s causing this? “Possibly more awareness of our national instrument due to the televising of the World Pipe Band Championships? Possibly the wedding market in general becoming competitive as Brides & Grooms look to add more diversity to their wedding such as hiring a Piper & Drummer, or perhaps 3 pipers at a time. We’re also finding that we see a lot of overseas visitors getting married here in Aberdeen and of course the attraction of having the bagpipes playing is an absolute must! Personally though, I think though that the team of pipers we have here at Thistle Piping is basically a dream-team as far as I’m concerned!”
“We have Drew Sinclair – the Pipe Major of Grampian Police Pipe Band, We have Fraser Maitland – one of the most respected solo pipers in the business, We have Corry Sutherland – ex Scots Guards and military specialist and we have Stuart Robertson – current region solo champion. Then of course there’s me! We all have slightly different availabilities and committments but between us we’re usually able to offer a pretty good timetable in terms of having someone available.”
Thistle Piping is also 2009 WINNERS of a coveted VOWS award which stands for -Voted Oustanding Wedding Supplier. Julie said “That was such a remarkable achievement! There are literally thousands of Scottish wedding suppliers out there, so to take home a VOWS award was beyond my imagination! We were nominated again last year for the 2010 awards which was a great thrill to be in the finals again!”
Here’s hoping the popularity we’re enjoying now continues for the future.
